QA Engineer — Wearables, Mobile & Cloud

Urrly•Austin, TX
•Remote

About The Position

The QA Engineer will own quality across a wearable health-technology platform, tracing failures from wearable devices through mobile SDKs and applications to APIs and cloud services. This is a hands-on, player-coach role with influence over releases and the opportunity to shape the quality function. The engineer will reproduce difficult failures, investigate device and server logs, deliver fixes or clear engineering handoffs, build automated tests, and improve release reliability across hardware, mobile, and backend teams. The role tests real-world usage conditions, including overnight wear, workouts, low battery, weak signal, offline use, and operating-system updates. The technical environment includes Go, Swift, Kotlin, AWS/S3, Firebase Crashlytics, and Mixpanel; expertise in every tool is not required. The position is remote in the United States, with Austin preferred. Compensation is $130,000–$155,000 annual base, plus equity and benefits; final terms depend on experience, scope, and location.

Requirements

  • Substantial QA or test-engineering experience, typically 5+ years, including at least two years owning quality at a startup shipping hardware and software.
  • Hands-on experience with Bluetooth/BLE and mobile-device testing.
  • Clear examples of releases personally owned and reliability improvements achieved.
  • Coding ability in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Ability to read and fix Swift, Kotlin, or Go.
  • Experience building automated test suites.
  • Exposure to native mobile and cloud systems.
  • Practical use of AI coding or testing tools, with a clear approach to checking their output.
  • A sustained, explainable work history demonstrating personal ownership of shipped work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with wearables, biometrics, health technology, IoT, firmware testing, or data pipelines.
  • Strong experience with other connected products.
  • Familiarity with Go, Swift, Kotlin, AWS/S3, Firebase Crashlytics, and Mixpanel; expertise in every tool is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Test the full product journey, including wearable firmware, Bluetooth pairing and synchronization, iOS and Android SDKs, cloud processing, APIs, and the app.
  • Reproduce difficult failures, identify root causes using device and server logs, and deliver fixes or clear handoffs to engineering.
  • Build automated SDK, API, and app tests into CI.
  • Own bug triage and release gates, prioritizing customer impact across hardware, mobile, and backend teams.
  • Test real-world conditions such as overnight wear, workouts, low battery, weak signal, offline use, and OS updates.
  • Help lead efforts to improve release reliability and shape the quality function.
