About The Position

Turing is seeking a quality-focused engineer to work on preference data and rubric creation for AI projects. The role involves exercising strong judgment about data quality, communicating technical work clearly and concisely, and working effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with an emphasis on shipping solutions. The engineer will design and refine evaluation rubrics, review and label data, and build and maintain pipelines and infrastructure for data generation, collection, and evaluation. They will synthesize findings into clear updates or recommendations and collaborate with researchers and engineers to turn qualitative judgment into scalable processes. This is a fully remote, independent-contractor engagement lasting three months, with an expected start as soon as possible. Compensation is at market rate; applicants are asked to provide a specific rate expectation. Availability of 40 hours per week is preferred, with at least six hours of overlap with Pacific Time. The selection process consists of one approximately 30-minute interview covering technical and cultural topics.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python, especially building and maintaining pipelines and infrastructure, or proficiency in TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with preference data collection and/or rubric creation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill technical work into clear, actionable summaries.
  • High-taste judgment and the ability to articulate why something is good, not merely that it is.
  • Availability of 40 hours per week is preferred, with a minimum six-hour overlap with Pacific Time; applicants unable to commit to 40 hours should share their available hours and overlap window.
  • Applicants should provide a specific rate expectation rather than a range.
