Python Developer

Turing•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Turing is seeking a Python Developer to work as a Software Engineering evaluator on projects that create datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing large language models. The role involves collaborating with researchers to curate code examples, provide precise solutions, and correct code, primarily in Python across backend services, data pipelines, and machine-learning infrastructure. Work may also involve JavaScript, including ReactJS, C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go. The developer will assess and improve AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen enterprise AI coding solutions. The work includes building Python agents and automated verification tools, evaluating model capabilities across stages of the software engineering cycle, and designing mechanisms that automatically verify solutions to software engineering tasks. The engagement is flexible, with a commitment of at least 10 and up to 40 hours per week. It is a contractor role lasting one month, with potential extensions based on performance and fit. Candidates must be based in the United States. The application process takes 15–30 minutes and requires completion of an AI video interview. The role does not include medical benefits or paid leave.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong Python expertise, including deep knowledge of frameworks, tooling, and best practices for production-grade software.
  • Experience building full-stack applications and deploying scalable software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality and review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide clear, structured evaluation rationales.
  • Must be based in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building production systems at high-scale engineering organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Meta, or similar companies.
  • Graduation from a strong computer science program such as Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, or a comparable institution; exceptional experience and skill take precedence over pedigree.

Responsibilities

  • Curate code examples, develop solutions, and correct code for AI model training initiatives, primarily in Python and also in other listed programming languages.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build Python agents and automated verification tools to assess code quality and identify error patterns.
  • Evaluate model capabilities across the software engineering cycle, including prototyping, architecture and API design, production implementation, launch, experimentation, monitoring, and operational maintenance.
  • Design verification mechanisms that can automatically validate solutions to software engineering tasks.
