Python Developer

Turing•Austin, TX

About The Position

Turing is seeking a Software Engineering evaluator to create datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing large language models in collaboration with researchers. The work primarily focuses on Python across backend services, data pipelines, and ML infrastructure, with additional coding in JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go. The evaluator will curate code examples, provide precise solutions, correct code, and assess and refine AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability. The role also involves working with cross-functional teams to improve enterprise AI-driven coding solutions and evaluate model capabilities throughout the software engineering cycle, from prototyping and design through launch, monitoring, and maintenance. The engagement is flexible, requiring at least 10 hours per week and allowing up to 40 hours per week. It is a one-month contractor engagement, with potential extensions based on performance and fit. Candidates must be based in the United States. The application process takes 15–30 minutes and requires completion of an AI video interview.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in Python, including deep knowledge of frameworks, tooling, and best practices for production-grade software.
  • Experience building full-stack applications and deploying scalable software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality and review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clear, structured evaluation rationales.
  • Must be based in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building production systems at high-scale engineering organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Meta, or similar companies.
  • Graduation from a top computer science program such as Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, or a comparable institution.

Responsibilities

  • Curate code examples, build solutions, and correct code for AI model training initiatives, primarily in Python and also in JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code to ensure efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build Python agents and automated verification tools to assess code quality and identify error patterns.
  • Develop hypotheses about software engineering cycle steps and evaluate model capabilities across those steps, including prototyping, architecture and API design, implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, and operational maintenance.
  • Design mechanisms that can automatically verify solutions to software engineering tasks.
