About The Position

The Purchasing Specialist manages procurement of goods and services—including raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies—and purchases inventory to meet production requirements. The role supports daily production needs while controlling inventory levels across varying lead times, and assists with periodic plant inventory.

Requirements

At least five years of work experience in purchasing and/or costing.
Effective time management skills.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask.
A good work ethic based on honesty and integrity.
Experience with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Review requisitions and verify specifications of purchase requests.
Contact vendors and suppliers to obtain product or service information, including price, availability, and delivery schedules.
Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items, and estimate their value based on knowledge of market prices.
Determine the procurement method, such as direct purchase or bid.
Prepare purchase orders and bid requests, and send purchase orders to suppliers and the requesting department.
Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
Maintain procurement records covering purchases, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
Coordinate with inspection or quality assurance personnel, users, vendors, and others to address defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action.
Approve invoices and verify supplier bills against bids and purchase orders.
Count inventory to determine whether material on hand is sufficient, compute total costs of purchased items, and assist with periodic plant inventory.
Follow up with suppliers about late deliveries and expedite delivery of goods to users.
Meet daily production requirements while controlling inventory levels across varying lead times.
