About The Position

The Purchasing Specialist I is a buyer supporting research and development at Owens Corning’s Science and Technology center in Granville, Ohio. The role purchases MRO, capital, lab equipment, consultant fees, testing services, site operational services, and other business services from external suppliers. It ensures that Owens Corning’s values and business policies are upheld while demonstrating personal transformation, high performance, business acumen, market knowledge, and leadership. The position implements sourcing strategies for R&D stakeholders, supports contract and supplier processes, and works with legal counsel and internal teams on procurement details, intellectual property protection, safety, vendor setup, and freight terms. It also leads sourcing process improvements and compliance activities, helps develop sourcing capabilities and training, communicates with stakeholders and vendors, and serves as a local champion for SAP, Coupa, and Business Information.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree required; preferably in Supply Chain Management or Business.
At least 1 year of experience in Supply Chain or Sourcing.
Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship skills for working with diverse suppliers across business segments and around the globe.
Ability to work with senior managers and executives.
Business and financial acumen, analytics, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Contract negotiation skills.
Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
Ability to build good relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
Ability to work with all organizational levels to enable change.
Ability to thrive in a complex, matrixed environment with unique purchasing situations.

Nice To Haves

Three years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, or equivalent experience in relevant business categories and managing internal and external relationships while delivering business results.
Knowledge of international freight, including freight brokers, Incoterms, and customs clearance.
Experience with SAP and Coupa systems.
Experience with payment terms and contract negotiations.
Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management or Business.

Responsibilities

Implement purchasing needs in alignment with business strategy for R&D stakeholders.
Partner with legal counsel to ensure procurement contracts contain all details of negotiations.
Collaborate with the broader Sourcing community to learn processes and create efficient solutions for complex Science and Technology purchasing.
Coordinate with other organizational areas on intellectual property protection, safety, vendor setup, and freight terms related to purchasing.
Work with the other Purchasing Specialist to develop solutions that improve Granville spending.
Lead sourcing process changes that improve efficiency and reduce organizational risk.
Identify opportunities and develop ideas to achieve organizational outcomes while adhering to company policies, processes, and procedures.
Partner with the other Purchasing Specialist to develop sourcing capabilities, including the RFP process, standard templates, and educational tools.
Ensure site compliance with Owens Corning requirements, processes, and controls.
Partner with the Site Controller and Granville admin team to ensure compliance with P-card, purchase requisition, and other purchasing processes.
Partner with the other Purchasing Specialist to train stakeholders on processes.
Respond clearly and consistently to internal and external stakeholder requests.
Influence others, present ideas persuasively, inspire commitment, and secure support.
Serve as a local SAP, Coupa, and Business Information champion for Sourcing.
Communicate with external vendors as the point of contact for invoicing.
Lead or participate in teams implementing improvements or other site-related projects.
