About The Position

This position is responsible for negotiating with vendors and placing orders for business needs under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager. The Purchasing Assistant will purchase products for resale, using inventory systems to track usage and quantities needed. This role involves negotiating for the best costing and programming on behalf of the company, making decisions on best purchasing practices for a multiple vendor/product system, and confirming costs on purchase orders to ensure correct amounts are charged. The assistant will track backorders, noting adjusted ship dates and products, and secure alternate vendors to fill voids as needed. They will find viable solutions for stock outs, discontinues, and extended ETAs through all sourcing channels, and manage correct stocking levels for assigned vendors. Additionally, the role includes scheduling shipping for inbound and outbound shipments, issuing reports, vendor follow-up, and order tracking. Creating purchase orders, following up on dropship orders with vendors on ship dates, and building relationships with vendors for preferred costing, supply, and service are also key responsibilities. The Purchasing Assistant will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, or GED equivalent needed.
  • 1 year of purchasing work experience needed, preferably for retail or warehousing business.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Proficient in grammar and spelling areas, ability to multi-task as needed.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude with a customer service focus in a fast-paced work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Experience in Automotive Parts, Commercial Vehicle parts experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Purchases products for resale, using inventory systems to track usage and quantities needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
