About The Position

As a Purchaser, you'll be the engine behind daily material purchasing for our active electrical construction projects. This is an execution-focused role with real room to grow as you prove yourself in the basics.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of purchasing, expediting, inside sales, or counter/warehouse experience in electrical construction or electrical distribution
  • Working knowledge of electrical materials: conduit and fittings, wire and cable, boxes, devices, gear components, fixtures, and hangers/supports
  • Ability to read a material list and identify errors, omissions, and inappropriate substitutions
  • Proficiency with purchasing or ERP software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational skills; able to manage 20–40 open orders simultaneously without losing track of delivery dates
  • Clear written and verbal communication with field personnel and vendors
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with an electrical contractor (versus distribution side)
  • Familiarity with the local distributor network and counter staff
  • Experience reading construction drawings and submittals
  • Working knowledge of job costing and purchase order coding
  • Experience with Accubid, Remarcable, and Intacct

  • Receiving and processing material requests from field superintendents, foremen, and project teams
  • Verifying requested items against project requirements, specifications, and submittals before ordering
  • Soliciting quotes from approved distributors and suppliers for daily and small-package orders
  • Evaluating quotes on price, lead time, availability, and freight; selecting the vendor that best meets project schedule and budget
  • Issuing and managing purchase orders with accurate part numbers, quantities, pricing, delivery dates, and job cost coding
  • Confirming order acknowledgments and flagging any vendor-side changes to price or delivery
  • Tracking open orders against required-on-site dates and escalating delays before they affect crew productivity
  • Coordinating delivery timing, site access, and staging with field supervision
  • Resolving shortages, damaged goods, wrong shipments, and backorders
  • Processing returns, credits, and restocking with suppliers
  • Maintaining accurate, current open-order status visible to project teams
  • Maintaining working relationships with electrical distributors and specialty suppliers
  • Keeping pricing agreements, vendor contact records, and approved-vendor information current
  • Reconciling packing slips against purchase orders and forwarding documentation to Accounting for three-way match
  • Researching substitutions when specified material is unavailable; routing substitutions requiring approval to the Project Manager or Engineer before ordering
  • Communicating daily with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen on material status and lead-time constraints
  • Alerting Project Managers early when a field request appears to fall outside project scope or budget
  • Supporting Project Managers with quote solicitation on major packages when requested (execution support only)
