About The Position

MAC Trailer is hiring a Purchaser to compile information and records and prepare purchase orders for procurement of materials. The role works with suppliers and internal departments to verify purchase requests, source and order materials, maintain purchasing and inventory records, and support accurate and timely deliveries. The position is based in an office environment and may require work at various affiliate locations when needed.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Ability to perform arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
• Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Basic computer skills.
• Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Verify nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
• Search inventory records or warehouses to determine whether sufficient materials are on hand.
• Consult catalogs and interview suppliers to obtain prices and specifications.
• Prepare and send invitation-of-bid forms to suppliers or for public posting.
• Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and the requesting department.
• Compile records of purchased or transferred items, prices, deliveries, and inventories.
• Compute the total cost of purchased items.
• Confer with suppliers about late deliveries.
• Compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates; award contracts to bidders or place orders with suppliers or mail-order firms.
• Verify supplier bills against bids and purchase orders and approve bills for payment.
• Classify priority regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
