About The Position

Haddad Plumbing and Heating Inc. is seeking a Purchaser at its headquarters in Newark, New Jersey. The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials and equipment, managing vendor negotiations, issuing purchase orders, verifying costs, and coordinating deliveries so that purchases meet competitive pricing and project schedules. The role supports cost control, material availability, and project execution. The Purchaser works independently, supervises purchasing support staff, and reports directly to the Purchasing Manager.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Three years of purchasing experience, preferably in the plumbing and HVAC industry.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Procure materials and equipment by negotiating costs, delivery schedules, and terms with vendors.
Issue purchase orders and verify costs against project estimates.
Manage purchase orders, track their status, and expedite orders as needed.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal team members and vendors.
Confirm vendor acknowledgments and ensure punctual deliveries.
Follow up on and promptly resolve back-order and return issues.
Find and evaluate new vendors to improve the cost and quality of materials and equipment.
Participate in project meetings to understand delivery schedules.
Train and guide the assistant purchaser and purchasing clerk in their tasks.
Verify and monitor purchases and work performed by the assistant purchaser.
Meet daily with the assistant purchaser and purchasing clerk to ensure work is accurate and correct.
