About The Position

As a General Production team member at Smithfield Foods, you will perform essential production tasks to process meat products and support coworkers. The role contributes to safe, high-quality food production by helping maintain safety, quality, teamwork, and an efficient production line. The work may be physically demanding and requires reliability, attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and a willingness to learn. Employees may perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Be able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Be willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
Be able to work with a knife if trained.
Be able to work in cold areas (approximately 20–40 degrees) and/or warm areas (over 100 degrees), and in wet and humid conditions.
Be able to work in a noisy environment and wear required personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
Be able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong smells or odors.
Be able to climb or move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
Some positions may require certification to operate equipment.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifts of objects up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
Be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Work scheduled shifts and, as production demands require, work overtime.
