About The Position

The Columbia VA Health Care System is seeking a Pulmonologist - Critical Care to join their team. This role involves providing comprehensive care to Veterans, including performing various procedures, providing consultations, and participating in medical conferences. The position is based at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC, which serves Veterans throughout South Carolina. The Columbia VA Health Care System has a long history of providing high-quality healthcare to South Carolina Veterans and includes seven community-based outpatient clinics.

Requirements

  • Completed an accredited residency and/or fellowship program.
  • 3 years' experience as a Pulmonologist.
  • Hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited graduate school of medicine.
  • Board Certified / Board Eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary.
  • Must have and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

  • Perform procedures such as Thoracentesis, Central line placement, Arterial line placements, Bronchoscopies, Bedside bronchoscopies, Intubation procedures, Bedside echo.
  • Conduct patient rounding.
  • Interpret Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs).
  • Provide inpatient consultation and be reachable for consultative care at the request of a referring physician.
  • Conduct physician rounds on postoperative ENT patients in the SICU and on the wards.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality conferences and provide information for departmental reports.
  • Provide on-call services.
  • Review consults and triage daily.
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures.
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions for emergency department patients, coordinated with the next care setting.
  • Offer post-procedure evaluation, follow-up, and clinical consultation regarding complications of procedures.
