Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician

Emerald Resource Group•White Plains, NY

About The Position

Patients in respiratory failure and multi-organ crisis need a physician who can decide fast, lead a team, and stay until the plan is working. This role puts you at the center of that care: you will shape outcomes in the ICU and clinic, raise the standard of pulmonary practice, and leave a measurable imprint on survival, length of stay, and how confidently families understand what comes next.

Requirements

  • Board certification or eligibility in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine, with an active, unrestricted medical license.
  • Demonstrated ICU leadership: you have run rounds, owned ventilator strategy, and closed the loop with nursing on the same shift.
  • Procedural competence in bronchoscopy and airway management, with a case log you can discuss.
  • A record of improving a measurable outcome—length of stay, ventilator days, readmissions, or complication rates—not just participating in a committee.
  • Clear communication with families and trainees under time pressure, including documented goals-of-care practice.
  • Eligibility for hospital privileges and a willingness to share call in a high-acuity unit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily ICU rounds so that ventilator, sepsis, and shock plans are set, documented, and owned before noon, with clear handoffs that reduce overnight escalations.
  • Manage a pulmonary consult and clinic panel that shortens time-to-diagnosis for complex lung disease and cuts avoidable readmissions through tight follow-up.
  • Perform and interpret core procedures—bronchoscopy, airway management, and critical-care ultrasound—with complication rates at or below peer benchmarks.
  • Direct multidisciplinary goals-of-care conversations so families leave with a documented plan aligned to the patient’s wishes within the first 48 hours of a high-acuity stay.
  • Partner with nursing, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy to close protocol gaps in ventilation liberation, sedation, and DVT prophylaxis, tracked monthly.
  • Teach residents and advanced practice clinicians at the bedside so independent decision-making improves across the service within two quarters.
  • Contribute to quality reviews that turn sentinel events and near misses into revised pathways adopted by the unit.

Benefits

  • Protected procedure time
  • Modern ICU with bedside ultrasound
  • EMR configured for ventilator and sepsis workflows
  • Administrative support covers scheduling, credentialing, and prior authorization
  • Defined quality budget funds protocol work, simulation, and conference time tied to your performance goals.
