About The Position

Dow Jones Newswires is hiring a Publishing Editor for their real-time desk in New York. This role is responsible for delivering market-moving business, finance, and economic news to professional investors, emphasizing speed and accuracy during the trading day. The Publishing Editor will monitor multiple information feeds, make fast editorial decisions, and ensure news is published immediately, starting with flash headlines and progressing to concise, publish-ready updates with context.

Requirements

• At least 3-5 years of real-time editing/production experience in wires, markets desk, breaking news, or live environments.
• Ability to work at speed under pressure, comfortable with numbers, earnings language, and corporate disclosures.
• Capability to publish flash headlines in seconds and edit/publish 100-200 word updates in ~8-10 minutes accurately and repeatedly.
• Strong market news judgment, with the ability to make fast, independent calls under pressure without sacrificing accuracy.
• A strong instinct for identifying market-moving information versus noise, and the ability to prioritize and manage a live queue during busy windows.
• Competence in handling economic data, including headlining and editing key macro releases and their revisions.
• Clear, clean writing skills for tight headlines and short takes with unambiguous language.
• Ability to coordinate desk activities, assign coverage to reporters, and route copy to editors in real time.
• Strong command of newsroom tools, metadata/coding/tagging, and house style, with operational reliability.
• High accuracy standards with a strong attention to detail regarding numbers, tickers, attribution, and timing.
• Comfort with new tools and technology, including participation in automation/GenAI pilots and editorial QA.
• Proactive attitude, clear communication skills, and ability to work well across teams.

Responsibilities

• Publish flash headlines in seconds from various sources like press releases, SEC filings, earnings reports, and conference calls.
• Edit and publish short market updates (100-200 words) within approximately 8-10 minutes, including essential context such as prior period data, guidance, deal terms, revisions, and "why it matters."
• Manage the newsflow during busy periods by prioritizing, coordinating, preventing duplication, and maintaining consistent standards.
• Assign coverage to reporters and route copy to editors in real time.
• Headline and edit key economic indicators, including revisions and their significance.
• Utilize newsroom tools, metadata, and internal coding correctly to ensure timely content delivery to the appropriate feeds.
• Support newsroom automation and GenAI pilot programs, including editorial quality assurance before publication.
• Uphold Dow Jones' standards for accuracy and ethics.
