Perform as part of a team to build and maintain roadways and bridges throughout Weld County while operating heavy or light construction equipment. This position can be assigned to any division as needed in Public Works. Field Work - 80% Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment, machinery, trucks, tools in construction and repair activities, and will be required to perform a certain amount of manual labor. Must have basic knowledge of road construction/road maintenance procedures. Must be able to perform work without direction or immediate supervision and follow detailed instruction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task. Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally through radio. When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude. Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees. Administration - 10% Must have basic computer skills and the ability to report/record data as per departmental requirements. Ability to write, read and comprehend single instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public. Other Duties as Assigned - 10% Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events, including night-time hours, weekend and/or holidays. Additional overtime duties may be required. Assist with snow other inclement weather operations. Assist Supervisor, foreman, and co-workers with assignments and tasks requiring independent and individual contribution.
