About The Position

Operate construction equipment for routine maintenance and reconstruction tasks on county gravel roads in the Briggsdale area. This position will report directly to Briggsdale. The role involves 80% field work, requiring proficiency in operating a motor grader and a broad range of heavy equipment for gravel road maintenance and snow removal. The employee must possess a thorough understanding of gravel road maintenance procedures, be able to work independently with minimal supervision, follow detailed instructions, and communicate effectively via radio. Public interaction requires a courteous and helpful attitude. Approximately 10% of the role involves administrative tasks, including basic computer skills for reporting and recording data, writing, reading, comprehending instructions, and organizing work. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and the public is also essential. The remaining 10% covers other duties as assigned, including availability for extraordinary hours during emergencies, potential lead worker responsibilities, and assisting with snow and inclement weather operations. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two years of heavy or light equipment operation including motor grader experience.
  • Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
  • Ability to be MSHA certified.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one situations with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.
  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds, occasionally move and/or pull 50 plus pounds up to 92 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift from ground to waist up to 196 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, climb, squat, crawl, stoop, kneel, carry, and reach overhead.
  • Regularly perform sitting, reaching angularly, wrist flexion/extension, elbow flexion/extension, supination/pronation, and grasp.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
