Office options include South Austin (Directors Blvd), North Austin (Louis Henna Blvd), or San Antonio (San Pedro near I-35/airport). This role supports the planning, analysis, and design of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, force mains, lift stations, pump stations, and related utility improvements. The position involves preparing engineering calculations, technical memoranda, design reports, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and permit submittals. Performing hydraulic modeling and system analysis using specialized software, developing construction-ready drawings with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and assisting with feasibility studies are key responsibilities. The role also requires coordination with various project stakeholders, providing construction phase support, and applying relevant regulations and standards. Mentoring junior staff and supporting client communication and proposal efforts are also part of the role, with a path towards independent project management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 5-7 years of progressive civil engineering experience with an emphasis on municipal water and/or wastewater infrastructure design; experienced EIT candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas preferred or ability/desire to obtain PE licensure.
  • Hands-on experience preparing plans, specifications, estimates, design calculations, technical reports, and construction documents for water/wastewater projects.
  • Working knowledge of water distribution, wastewater collection, lift station, pump station, pipeline, force main, and/or treatment-related design concepts.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience with MicroStation is a plus.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software such as WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, InfoWater, SewerGEMS, or comparable platforms preferred.
  • Familiarity with public agency standards, permitting requirements, and regulatory considerations related to water and wastewater systems.
  • Ability to manage assigned design tasks, budgets, schedules, and deliverables with guidance from project managers or senior technical staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a collaborative team-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to participate in client meetings, site visits, field coordination, and construction support activities as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to be in the Austin or San Antonio office on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, analysis, and design of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, force mains, lift stations, pump stations, and related utility improvements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical memoranda, design reports, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and permit submittmits for public works and utility projects.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling and system analysis for water distribution and wastewater collection systems using tools such as WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, InfoWater, or comparable software.
  • Develop construction-ready drawings, plan/profile sheets, utility layouts, grading, and civil site details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Assist with feasibility studies, preliminary engineering reports, alternatives evaluations, and design recommendations for water and wastewater improvements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, senior engineers, CAD designers, subconsultants, contractors, utility providers, and public agency reviewers to support successful project delivery.
  • Provide construction phase support, including shop drawing/submittal reviews, responding to RFIs, field observations, site visits, and documentation of design-related issues.
  • Apply applicable local, state, and federal regulations, design criteria, and engineering standards related to drinking water, wastewater, and public infrastructure projects.
  • Mentor junior staff or designers as appropriate and contribute to quality control reviews for assigned design tasks.
  • Support client communication, meeting preparation, proposal efforts, and project coordination while continuing to grow toward independent project management responsibilities.
