About The Position

Under general supervision, the Public Works Custodian 1 keeps offices, corridors, meeting rooms, activity spaces, and other specified areas clean and orderly. Work schedules vary depending on building assignment, and night shifts are required in some buildings.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have one or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability needed to perform the essential duties.
Have working knowledge of safety standards and precautions related to maintenance and construction activities.
Be able to use mechanical tools of the trade.
Be able to read, write, and comprehend English.
Be able to understand and follow written and oral directions.
Be able to work cooperatively in a work crew and independently.
Be able to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.
Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Have skill in using hand tools and equipment of the laboring trade.
Know basic first aid methods and procedures.
Be able to operate a variety of small trucks skillfully and safely in all types of weather conditions.
Obtain First Aid Certification within six months of hire.
Attend GHS Certification training within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Perform detailed cleaning with various cleaning chemicals as assigned.
Perform and document scheduled cleaning assignments.
Check inventory of supplies and parts according to established procedures.
Maintain courteous and cooperative relations when dealing with staff, supervisors, and the public.
Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
Report incidents and accidents according to policy.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations with staff, customers, and supervisors.
