About The Position

This role involves performing various types of manual labor and operating equipment in facilities maintenance, public works, and parks maintenance. The position requires responding promptly to work requests, working in diverse environments to ensure efficient operations, and being available for after-hours emergencies. The standard work week is Monday - Thursday, 10:00 am - 8:30 pm.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience with manual labor and operation of light equipment and tools.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s license with tanker and air brake endorsements, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire; and ability to obtain Class A within 9 months of hire.
  • Ability to read, follow and understand written policies, procedures, manuals, chemical information, etc. as needed to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to work dependently and safely carry out tasks, duties and responsibilities assigned and follow safety/OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to physically perform essential functions and requirements of the position, including the ability to transport oneself to a variety of locations, climbing stairs and ladders, entering confined spaces, and operating hand and mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in and outdoor and indoor environment year-round, working in extreme temperatures for lengths of time.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule as assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience of full-time employment in a similar position, with building/construction trades, or with equipment used in the position.
  • Certificates and licensing in related areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of basic maintenance and repair services of city buildings and facilities, including lighting, plumbing, heating/air-conditioning, carpentry, painting, Building Management System software, communication systems, drywall repair, garage door repairs, and mechanical systems.
  • Perform a variety of custodial services to keep city buildings and facilities clean, safe, and in good functioning order, including maintenance and cleaning of restroom facilities, floor cleaning, carpet shampooing, vacuuming, window washing, dusting, and snow removal.
  • Perform a variety of reconstruction/remodeling duties on city-owned buildings and facilities, including flooring, ceilings, communication lines, general construction, and construction of cubicles/office furniture.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and mechanical services on equipment and the procurement of parts, including general preventive maintenance (belts, oil, grease, filters, hoses), safety inspections, maintaining an inventory of parts, and record management of parts and fuel consumption.
  • Perform daily maintenance of equipment.
  • May be assigned to assist with duties in other divisions.
  • May be required to function as crew lead on short-term projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
