About The Position

The Public Safety Technology Manager is responsible to achieve operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews. This position communicates with the IT Department and the Command Staff. This position will ensure all Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) regulations and Law Enforcement Accreditation guidelines are followed. Ensures all action plans, assessments of applications, and issues are implemented. The Public Safety Technology Manager works under the general supervision of the IT Director and the Chief of Police.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • Experience and training may be substitute on a year for year basis.
  • Must possess at least four (4) years of related work experience involving troubleshooting, installing, upgrading, or maintaining PCs, laptops, printers, or associated peripherals in a MS Windows-based environment with MS Office products.
  • Ability to attain FDLE CJIS Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Experience with desktop operating systems.
  • Extensive application support experience.
  • Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other similar programs.
  • Must be a non-smoker.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer Industry Certifications in A+, N+, ITIL, and MCP are preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement processes and procedures for tracking and analyzing technical and financial data of Public Safety software, hardware, and equipment from requisition through retirement.
  • Track and maintain copies of software licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Enter all software and hardware serial numbers or identification tags into IT Inventory system and ensure information is up-to-date, accurate, and auditable.
  • Perform inventories and usage monitoring of all IT assets and record all findings, changes, physical location, and incidences of support.
  • Research industry best practices and compare against the organization’s practices in order to establish benchmarks for managing Public Safety IT assets.
  • Generate, distribute, and review relevant management reports.
  • Leads in the administration and maintaining operational capacity of public safety systems with respect to network connectivity, storage, and security infrastructure architecture.
  • Responsible to maintain accessibility at all times for all public safety staff.
  • Install, configure and maintain CAD/RMS related systems and equipment.
  • Overseeing and managing Public Safety information technology projects.
  • Supervision is exercised over a variety of professional, and Public Safety technical employees with assigned responsibilities in various Public Safety departmental projects.
  • Implements and enforces access control policies and procedures, including granting and revoking access privileges as well as monitoring access logs.
  • Manages the creation of new user accounts including Active Directory accounts, assign Office 365 licenses; and security access; disables accounts upon notice.
  • Assists with management and enrollment of mobile devices such as iPad and iPhone.
  • Provides training on new hardware and/or software applications as requested.
  • Performs other related work as required.
