About The Position

The Department of Public Safety & Security at The Lawrenceville School is a support and service unit focused on community engagement to ensure excellence in safety, security, and traffic management. This role is under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Safety. Employees must be available for any shift, including extra hours with minimal notice, and are considered essential personnel, required to work during emergencies, weather-related circumstances, or when other school departments are closed.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
  • High level of work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
  • Able to work well with all levels of Campus Personnel including faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, visitors, and guests.
  • Must be available to work extra hours including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays and must be flexible for various shifts and schedules.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or GED, and a minimum of six months prior relevant experience.
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge in alarm systems is preferred.
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred.
  • EMS, Fire, or Police experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of dispatch systems, radio communications, fire systems, CCTV, Access Control System, and emergency procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a daily shift log (report).
  • Record/report any and all safety hazards on log sheet.
  • File formal reports and complete log entries for any and all incidents (accidents, alarms, investigations, etc.) that occur on campus.
  • Engage and assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist motorists with vehicle problems (i.e., jump starts, keys locked in vehicle, assist them in getting further help, etc.).
  • Ensure all fire lanes and hydrants are free from obstruction.
  • Patrol campus roadways and parking lots.
  • Act as first responder to all First Aid/CPR calls on campus.
  • Make sure all campus buildings are secured and report any unsecured areas.
  • Monitor the Access Control Computer and Fire Alarm Computer.
  • Check outside lights during each shift and report any inoperative lights on the shift log.
  • Provide walking patrols around dormitories and buildings during the evening and midnight shifts.
  • Perform Fire Prevention and Safety checks during all shifts.
