About The Position

The Public Safety Officer is a member of the Bradley University Police Department, responsible for developing partnerships within and outside the University community to maintain the security and safety of students, faculty, and staff, and to safeguard University property. This role supports the Bradley University Police Officers by performing duties that enhance the visible police presence in the university and surrounding communities. The Public Safety Officer reports to the BUPD Shift Lieutenant.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois driver’s license
  • High School education or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to walk and stand for a long period of time
  • Ability to complete the Bradley University Public Safety Officer Training
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Maintain effective working relationship with other people
  • Operate radio communication equipment effectively
  • Able to work under adverse weather conditions
  • Demonstrate a high level of professional ethics and personal integrity
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks in a timely manner with minimum supervision
  • Successful completion of an employment background investigation
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical
  • Complete PSO Field Training
  • Complete First Aid/CPR Training

Responsibilities

  • Conduct walking tours of the campus to inspect, open, and secure university buildings and grounds.
  • Monitor access to buildings.
  • Investigate and report unusual conditions related to the safety of the university community, such as non-functioning lights, dimly lit areas, and landscaping that obscures areas.
  • Respond to and assist faculty, staff, and students by granting access to rooms on campus as authorized by dispatcher or approved postings.
  • Assist in testing and responding to Panic Alarm systems.
  • Aid fire and police personnel in fire alarm incidents.
  • Respond to medical related incidents and administer First-Aid/CPR if needed.
  • Report any events that are considered criminal (vandalism, damaged), suspicious persons, or any other criminal or suspicious activity.
  • Submit reports of daily activity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
