The Public Safety Officer is responsible for patrolling hospital buildings and grounds to protect against fire, theft, illegal entry, infractions of safety regulations, and other irregularities. This role ensures the security and safety of hospital properties, employees, equipment, and records, as well as all physical aspects of the property including parking lots and motor vehicles. The officer will participate in investigations, maintain records, and prepare incident reports. They will also investigate disturbances, take charge of policing during emergencies to maintain order and safety, and respond to emergency situations such as accidents, injuries, crimes, and safety hazards, providing assistance and summoning proper authorities. Additionally, the officer will respond to inquiries, assist hospital personnel, help in restraining psychiatric patients when requested, secure and unlock offices and facilities, and manage patient valuables and lost and found articles. Maintaining required records, reports, and files, as well as department equipment and supplies, is also part of the role. Attendance at all education and inservice training programs is required, along with performing other work-related duties as requested or directed.
