We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Public Safety Officer, Part-Time, Office of Public Safety. The successful candidate will be a positive-minded and collaborative in nature. This is a part-time position that reports to the Shift Supervisor, Office of Public Safety, and will be responsible for ensuring adherence to public safety related policies and the discharging of all patrol and monitoring duties for the overall safety, protection, and safeguarding of Zoo employees, visitors, and property. The successful candidate will demonstrate an effective working style that embodies the Zoo’s Core Values.

Requirements

  • Prior customer service or security experience preferred.
  • Current First Aid, CPR & AED certifications preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstration of excellent oral and written communications, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a drug & nicotine screen and background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engages with customers, on foot, vehicle, or bicycle patrol, to address issues to quickly diffuse situations and minimize disruption.
  • Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities.
  • Discusses infractions or violations with customers, assesses appropriate actions, and escorts customers from premises if necessary.
  • Circulates among visitors, customers, and staff to preserve order and protect property while ensuring a positive customer experience, greets customers, answers directional questions and escorts customers with disabilities.
  • Abide by all direction, guidance, and coaching by the shift supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
