About The Position

Provide public safety service and support to the community that might be delayed due to workload and calls for service of sworn deputies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a record clear of felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude.
  • Knowledge of the county geography, traffic codes, personal safety procedures, principles of first aid, operation of tool and equipment, and department rules and regulations.
  • Skill in communications, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Ability to learn and analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action under stress and in a variety of circumstances dealing with human behavior, to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Ability to enforce NM State Statutes.
  • Clarity of vision at long and short distance is required.
  • Must be able to drag 175 lbs. for 15 feet and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver’s License as the incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to assigned requests for service and conduct preliminary investigation on traffic related matters.
  • Examine roadways for hazards and clear obstructions if necessary.
  • Direct traffic during special events, emergencies, or when traffic conditions warrant special control.
  • Provide sworn testimony in court.
  • Conduct escorts.
  • Initiate and coordinate medical response as needed.
  • Answer basic questions from the public, assist motorists, pedestrians, and other citizens.
  • Monitor Santa Fe County owned cameras.
  • Complete written reports as required.
  • Enforce County Ordinances.
  • May provide basic emergency aid.
  • May help identify witnesses and evidence at accident scenes; assist in diagramming when directed by investigating officer.
  • May assist patrol officers in collecting initial information on a Uniform Accident Report (UAR).
  • May assist other law enforcement or public safety agencies on-site.
  • May issue “Motor Vehicle Accident Report” form involving roadway accidents where damage is less than $500.00 and there are no complaints of injury.
  • May direct correspondence to vehicle owners involving improperly placed vehicles on public right of way.
  • Other appropriate and related duties as assigned.
