About The Position

Equip is seeking a Public Relations Manager to join their Communications team. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Public Relations Director. The position is a hands-on role for a media relations professional responsible for pitching, writing, and building relationships with reporters across various beats including health, tech, culture, and policy. The PR Manager will handle tasks ranging from research-driven media campaigns and executive thought leadership to reactive media inquiries and spokesperson preparation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and producing high-quality written work with a quick turnaround. This role is suited for individuals passionate about mission-driven work, interested in the intersection of mental health and culture, and eager to contribute to a rapidly growing healthcare company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in PR, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in Public Relations or Communications (Agency or in-house).
  • Prior experience in health-tech, behavioral health, or a highly regulated industry is strongly preferred.
  • Self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and can see a project through from start to finish with minimal guidance.
  • You have a "love for language" and can adapt your tone for a high-level medical journal or a consumer-facing TikTok-style media request.
  • Experience using PR measurement tools (like MuckRack) to translate "mentions" into meaningful business insights.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch and secure placements in print, broadcast, and digital media across consumer health, tech, culture, and lifestyle beats, leveraging existing relationships and building new ones with national and local outlets.
  • Develop targeted, angle-specific pitches, press releases, byline articles, media alerts, and keynote talking points that provide a sense of hope and healing.
  • Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and producers; manage media inquiries; coordinate interviews; and support/facilitate media training and spokesperson preparation for clinical experts and senior executives.
  • Monitor media coverage and implement an "always-on" PR strategy that aligns with key cultural milestones and business goals.
  • Support the development and execution of research-driven media campaigns, including drafting and editing press releases, media pitches, pitch follow-ups, data one-pagers, and other campaign materials.
  • Manage and maintain media lists using tools such as Muck Rack, and track outreach and placement results; identify new reporter targets and beat opportunities as Equip's media reach expands.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on PR results quarterly, using data to show how our reach is moving the needle on brand awareness.
  • Ownership over the awards and speaking engagements program.
  • Support the development of thought leadership content for Equip's spokespeople.
  • Draft spokesperson prep documents, Q&A documents, and talking points ahead of media interviews.
  • Assist with bylined content, op-eds, and contributed articles for trade and consumer outlets.
  • Partner with internal teams, including Marketing, Clinical, People, and Patient Acquisition, to ensure consistent, on-brand use of PR assets and messaging.
  • Support internal communications rollout of major campaigns in coordination with the PR Director and the Internal Communications team.
  • Ensure all external communications reflect Equip's unique voice—balancing professional clinical authority with warmth and empathy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
