About The Position

This is a part-time, onsite internship opportunity in Milwaukee, WI, running from Fall to Spring. Interns will work alongside their hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. The program aims to help interns identify and develop their future career goals and passions. Strategic Communications interns will have the opportunity to work in a large corporate communications department on a variety of initiatives. The Public Relations Intern will support PR and media relations efforts, including developing pitches, background documents, and tailored external-facing content. Responsibilities also include conducting media trainings, managing necessary approvals, and monitoring external media relations inquiries to build awareness of the NM value proposition and drive business. Key outputs include media briefing documents, media placements, drafting of news releases and social media copy, curated news clips, and subsequent merchandising communications.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related field from an accredited college or university with an expected graduation date of May 2027 or later.
  • Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Journalism.
  • Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role.

  • Proficiency with AP style.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
