About The Position

This is a part-time, onsite internship opportunity in Milwaukee, WI, running from Fall to Spring. Interns will work alongside their hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. The program aims to help interns identify and develop their future career goals and passions. Interns will have the opportunity to work in a large corporate communications department on a variety of initiatives. Specifically, the PR Intern will support PR and media relations efforts, including developing pitches, background documents, and tailored external-facing content. They will also conduct media trainings, manage necessary approvals, and monitor external media relations inquiries to build awareness of the NM value proposition and drive business. Key outputs include media briefing documents, media placements, drafting of news releases and social media copy, and curated news clips with subsequent merchandising communications. Interns also participate in professional development workshops, senior leadership Q&A's, volunteer initiatives, and networking/social events.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related field from an accredited college or university with an expected graduation date of May 2027 or later.
  • Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Journalism.
  • Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role.

  • Proficiency with AP style.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
