About The Position

Tri County Technical College is seeking a Public Relations Coordinator to support the institution’s strategic communications efforts. This role involves developing and executing media relations and public relations initiatives to enhance the College’s visibility, reputation, and brand. The coordinator will collaborate across departments to identify stories, guide external messaging, and support institutional priorities, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of work experience in public relations, communications and/or marketing.
  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) recommended.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic journalistic principles and practices for information dissemination, including familiarity with Associated Press style guidelines.
  • Ability to serve as agency spokesperson and participate in on-camera interviews.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with local, state, and national media.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and how to use those platforms to disseminate information and communicate with the public.
  • Familiarity with WordPress and ADA/WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of researching, planning, implementing, and evaluating public relations programs.
  • Ability to write, edit, and produce publications for various formats and mediums.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and through the written word.
  • Ability to understand and maintain agency brands and the accurate deployment of those brands in various marketing collateral outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and trade media.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media advisories, and feature stories.
  • Plan and execute press conferences and media events.
  • Pitch stories highlighting programs, student success, faculty expertise, and community impact.
  • Respond to media inquiries.
  • Monitor media coverage, analyze results, and prepare reports.
  • Serve as the back-up agency spokesperson.
  • Guide the modification and deployment of the crisis communication plan and inclement weather plan.
  • Serve as the agency's back-up responder to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
  • Direct the planning and execution of internal communications and publications.
  • Lead the development of public relations publications including newsletters, annual reports, award nominations, resolutions, and special publications.
  • Provide strategic communications support for key institutional announcements and initiatives.
  • Advise campus partners on messaging and communication approaches.
  • Plan and implement institutional events that support strategic priorities, brand, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to guide event logistics, messaging, and promotion.
  • Develop event-related communications materials.
  • Oversee event timelines, vendor coordination, and on-site execution.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage events for media visibility and storytelling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
