Public Relations Coordinator

Meow WolfCalifornia - Exhibition, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Meow Wolf is coming to Los Angeles, and the right person for this role knows this city the way a local knows Aviation Boulevard beats the 405. They're plugged into LA's art, entertainment, culture, underground film clubs, and attractions scenes. They've built real relationships with SoCal journalists, editors, producers, reporters, podcast hosts, Substack writers, and that one blogger whose newsletter somehow reaches everyone who should be reached. They know how to write a press release that doesn't sound like a press release, how to prep a GM for a TV segment, and how to stay completely calm when a celebrity texts at 9:00 p.m. on a Thursday asking for a last-minute tour. This role lives at the intersection of local knowledge and brand ambition. The LA Director of Marketing leads the strategic direction of initiatives on the ground; the PR Coordinator executes that vision with hustle, relationships, and deep local expertise. The Senior Director of PR provides functional leadership: the frameworks, the brand guardrails, and the professional development that keeps the work sharp and connected to Meow Wolf's voice and broader communications strategy. The role is extremely collaborative across all departments. It also involves being the liaison between Meow Wolf and a PR agency.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of PR, communications, or media relations experience, with meaningful time spent in LA or focused on the LA market.
  • Demonstrated experience in, and passion for, art, entertainment, culture, attractions, or adjacent industries — an understanding of how stories get told in this metro.
  • A working Rolodex (okay, a very organized contacts app) of LA media relationships across broadcast, print, digital, and new media.
  • Experience coordinating press events, managing media on-site, and working alongside agency partners, senior leadership, and high-profile guests.
  • Strong skills coordinating press events.
  • Strong writing skills — press releases, media alerts, talking points, and prep documents that are sharp, brand-right, and actually useful.
  • The ability to juggle multiple workstreams, stay organized across a complex launch calendar, and keep cool under pressure.
  • A collaborative spirit — playing well with creative teams, ops, marketing, and leadership, with the understanding that the best PR happens when everyone's telling the same story.
  • Comfort with public speaking and being the face of the brand in live, on-camera, or large-group settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Genuinely in love with weird, wonderful, immersive experiences — and able to explain why someone needs to come explore Meow Wolf in a way that makes them cancel their other plans.
  • A willingness and patience to explain the unexplainable.
  • Not the type to panic when things shift at the last minute; the type to adapt.
  • Someone who builds trust with journalists, partners, and colleagues alike because they're consistent, thoughtful, and actually fun to work with.
  • PR isn't just about coverage, it's about digging deeper for the bigger stories. And you're ready to help write one of the most exciting opening stories in LA's cultural calendar.

Responsibilities

  • Owns and nurtures relationships across LA's full media ecosystem — broadcast TV, print, digital, podcasts, Substacks, underground cinema clubs, and other emerging platforms–and they leverage those relationships to generate coverage and keep our share of voice up.
  • Serves as the day-to-day contact for California press and influencers, keeping those relationships warm through desk sides, previews, and good old-fashioned follow-through, welcoming them and hosting them and share our worlds with them.
  • Coordinates press previews, red carpet events, press conferences, and major milestone activations from concept through execution.
  • Designs and leads media tour routes that show Meow Wolf's world in its best, most mind-bending light, and serves as the on-site point of contact for media, influencers, celebrities, and government representatives — whether it's a scheduled press day or an impromptu visit from someone famous who just had to see it for themselves.
  • Facilitates film and photo shoots on-site, balancing brand representation with seamless collaboration across operations teams acting as a sherpa as needed.
  • Works closely with the local marketing department day to day, as well as the General Manager, and provide community opportunities to showcase the GM’s chops.
  • Writes and distributes press releases and media alerts to SoCal and regional press in a way that doesn't feel too press release-y.
  • Learns and harnesses the ability to speak in an offbeat and unique brand voice.
  • Drafts talking points and comprehensive media prep for speakers at opening and ongoing major events, develop opening PR documentation, and work closely with brand creative to source and manage assets.
  • Promotes ongoing programming, events, new art installations and activations as the property continues to grow.
  • Engages in cross-exhibit collaboration with Las Vegas PR.
  • Uses Asana to manage work, assistance with reporting, and occasional assistance on national campaigns as well as new openings outside of the market.
  • Builds partnerships with local travel bureaus, tourism boards, colleges and universities, and community organizations.
  • Actively seeks out opportunities to spotlight local artists, broadly and in the communities in which they create, the General Manager, and other thought leaders connected to the site, and collaborate closely with adjacent departments — Impact, Internal Communications, Marketing, and Social — to ensure storytelling is unified and moments land right.
  • Nurtures relationships with VIPs, celebrities, and influencers.
  • Hosts large-scale tours and leads public-facing engagements with confidence and charisma.
  • May occasionally serve as on-site spokesperson for news segments; comfort on camera is a genuine plus here.
  • Available to be on site for tours/chaperoning for media, VIP, and influencers.
  • Requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
