The Public Lands Supervisor works in the Division of Administration’s Office of State Lands (OSL), also known as the State Land Office. OSL identifies, administers, and manages Louisiana’s public lands and water bottoms. Its work includes pursuing economic returns and public use, consulting with clients, generating revenue through land and timber sales and leasing and permitting activities, and protecting the state’s proprietary interests in its lands and water bottoms. The role requires advanced knowledge of Louisiana history and the Office of State Lands’ role since its inception in 1844, as well as a clear understanding of land descriptions, divisions, mapping, land laws, legal descriptions, and terminology. The supervisor leads and trains Public Lands Analysts; responds to public research requests involving archived land-title records; manages state property files in the LAGOV Real Estate Module; maintains historical archives and tax-adjudicated property records; assists with state tax-land sales; and maintains the OSL website and its digital records. The position calls for focus, organization, discipline, leadership, analytical thinking, and intellectual curiosity.
