About The Position

The Public Information Specialist at the City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department supports the Strategic Planning and Community Engagement (SPACE) team in sharing HCD’s programs, initiatives, and impact on equitable housing and thriving communities. This role supports community outreach, coordinates events, responds to media inquiries, and ensures clear, timely communication with residents, Ward offices, partner organizations, and local businesses. Responsibilities include managing website and social media content, creating graphics, writing materials, and producing and editing videos to highlight the department’s work advancing housing stability, affordable housing development, and place-based community projects. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Information Officer. This position does not supervise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro)
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite, Canva, and social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Experience with web-based tools like ArcGIS Hub, StoryMaps, Experience Builder, etc.
  • Experience in video editing (Adobe Premiere) and photography.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and edits internal and external newsletters, news items, social media content, annual reports, press releases, project fact sheets, surveys, and other public-facing materials to share HCD initiatives and impact.
  • Creates, schedules, and posts content across City of Tucson and HCD platforms; takes photos and videos at events; edits video content; responds to and directs inquiries; monitors engagement.
  • Prepares materials, resources, and technical/AV support for public events; attends events to assist with sign-in, photograph activities, distribute materials, and provide communications support; builds and maintains relationships with community members and groups impacted by HCD’s work.
  • Updates HCD website, Initiative websites and Esri Hub Sites, and OneTeam pages; posts news items; receives and catalogs website feedback; directs inquiries to appropriate staff.
  • Designs graphics, flyers, postcards, brochures, signage, and other promotional materials; coordinates, drafts, designs, revises, and proofreads outreach materials for projects, events, and communications campaigns.
  • Posts videos to YouTube and links to websites, sends materials for translation, collects and uploads completed surveys, and provides general technical and administrative support to HCD staff as needed.
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
