About The Position

The Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) is seeking a skilled communications professional to serve as the primary editor and content lead for agency publications and internal communications. This role plays a critical part in ensuring staff, stakeholders, and leadership receive clear, timely, and engaging information that supports the agency’s mission. You’ll oversee major internal publications, manage communication workflows, and help shape messaging across multiple platforms—including newsletters, intranet content, and executive communications.

Requirements

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible messaging
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with intranet or content management systems (SharePoint preferred)
  • Strategic thinker who can balance big-picture planning with hands-on execution
  • 36 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license.
  • Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 12 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license.
  • 12 mos. exp. as Public Information Officer 1, 64421; valid driver's license.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Must provide own transportation or in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead editor for agency publications, including In The Know NOW, In The Know MONTHLY, Tuesday Times, and Scope
  • Manage the editorial calendar and coordinate content submissions across divisions
  • Ensure consistency in voice, tone, and branding across all communications
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication plans
  • Draft and edit newsletters, announcements, presentations, talking points, and scripts
  • Support website and social media content development
  • Collaborate with leadership, program staff, and communications team members (including design staff)
  • Provide support to Public Information Officers on communications, marketing, and public relations initiatives
  • Serve as lead administrator for the agency’s Microsoft SharePoint intranet
  • Maintain site structure and ensure content is accurate, current, and user-friendly
  • Partner with staff to improve usability, engagement, and adoption
  • Implement enhancements aligned with agency communication goals
  • Set team priorities and align work with agency objectives
  • Review work for quality and provide constructive feedback
