About The Position

The Department of Insurance is currently looking for a Public Information Officer with a track record of success. This position will be involved in the development and implementation of effective communication and marketing strategies for teammates and agency customers. The Nebraska Department of Insurance exists for one very important reason, to protect you, the consumer. Our mission is to safeguard all those affected by the business of insurance through the fulfillment of our statutory obligations and by promoting the fair and just treatment of all parties to insurance transactions. We work with other regulators both nationally and internationally, and with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to fulfill our roles and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, graphic arts, digital media, videography, or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in developing, planning, and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media communication activities, public information programs, and/or marketing/promotional campaigns.
  • Required experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organizational communication, public relations, website design and content management, marketing principles, writing in the English language; communication channels and media.
  • Skill in writing content appropriate for a variety of audiences; graphic design; web design; problem solving.
  • Ability to multi-task while working on simultaneous projects; prioritize work; work independently; facilitate meetings; and manage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with senior leadership, and other senior officials, to gather information needed to strategically plan and coordinate a communication plan that relays information successful to internal and external stakeholders and media.
  • Creating and updating the agency's website and intranet.
  • Write, create, distribute, and edit agency communications through a variety of media.
  • Prepare written remarks, talking points, or other oral presentations on behalf of senior leadership.
  • Serve as liaison for Governor's Constituent Services.
  • Coordinate with National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to modify drafts for Nebraska's use.
  • Coordinate and develop schedules for coverage of Nebraska's committee meetings for NAIC national meetings.
  • Serve as NAIC Liaison to serve as main contact for distribution and processing of NAIC information to NDOI team.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings for the Director with members of the public and/or industry professionals.
  • Handle other special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
