About The Position

This position is located in the Administration Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Public Information and Marketing Coordinator must possess previously acquired knowledge and skill in various aspects of communications and public relations. The position’s primary responsibility is to effectively communicate information to Oklahoma City residents, City employees, businesses and other stakeholders about City services, programs and events through traditional and digital avenues such as the City’s website, social media, newsletters and other platforms. Essential job functions include: developing messaging strategies and content for our online and print platforms including, but not limited to social media, okc.gov, eNewsletters, email, the City’s employee intranet portal, brochures, fliers and signage; implementing communications plans and/or promotions; researching, writing and proofreading to ensure clear, concise and understandable information; creating public relations strategies; writing news releases; and website maintenance and content creation. The position requires well-developed communication skills to maintain effective working relationships with City employees at all levels of the organization, outside agencies, media representatives and the public. Additionally, the employee may provide technical assistance to others in promoting the department's programs and services to the public. The employee works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
