About The Position

The Department of Public Health at San Francisco State University (SFSU) invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month Public Health Program Coordinator position. This year-round position is responsible for oversight and coordination of the Department’s Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs as well as coordinating accreditation, assessment and program review activities for both academic programs. The MPH program enrolls approximately 50 students across two cohorts and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The B.S. program serves approximately 500 majors and graduates about 150 students annually and undergoes regular program assessment to meet university requirements. SFSU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Working closely with the Department Chair, faculty, staff and students, the successful candidate will oversee accreditation and assessment processes, coordinate academic program operations, and support the implementation of college and university policies and procedures. The Program Coordinator oversees accreditation, assessment and program review activities for both undergraduate and graduate public health programs. The position also coordinates key academic program functions, including student recruitment, admissions, orientation, advising and student support services. In collaboration with faculty, staff and university partners, the candidate develops and implements program initiatives and serves as a liaison to the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning, Graduate Studies, and other campus units.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and relevant administrative work experience.
  • Minimum of one year of program coordination or relevant administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, investigate and solve problems, and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues proactively and develop solutions, consulting with others as needed.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with many responsibilities, rules and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a collaborative approach to work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite tools including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee advising and student support for BS and MPH programs.
  • Approve and orient new BS majors in Public Health.
  • Marketing of department programs and recruitment of new majors, minors and graduate students.
  • Maintain alumni network and keep students and alumni informed of professional development and job opportunities.
  • Oversee MPH Admissions process (info sessions, meeting with potential candidates, chair admissions committee, notify and orient newly admitted students, facilitate orientation).
  • Assist in disseminating information (related to college and university policies/procedures, deadlines, events, student resources, internships, and jobs, etc.) to students.
  • Assist in planning course schedules, including helping to run queries to determine course demand and expected student enrollment.
  • Collaborate with department faculty on program administration and curriculum design (attend MPH and BS Committee meetings, and other committees as fit).
  • Ensure the program assessment activities are aligned with accreditation-program review policies and procedures (e.g., CEPH).
  • Coordinate with relevant offices/program on campus (Advising, Academic Assessment, Graduate Studies, Health Promotion and Wellness, etc.).
  • Update materials (handbook, etc.) for prospective MPH students as needed; coordinate with Academic Analyst to ensure the updated materials align with the information in the department’s website.
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings and sub-committees as assigned by Department Chair; this position involves participation in the all-faculty committee and 2 sub-committees per year (usually the MPH committee and the BS committee, and/or the MPH admissions committee).
  • Work with the Department Chair to ensure accreditation and university assessment and program review deadlines are met. This includes leading the assessment and continuous improvement of academic programs, ensuring the appropriate data are collected, following evaluation plans and timelines, and reports analyzing those data are shared with the Chair and faculty and filed appropriately as well as included in any annual assessment reports, program reviews of self-study reports for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
  • Collect and analyze data to complete the annual report due to CEPH every December; work with Chair & Academic Analyst to complete budget section of report.
  • Teach one course per semester in one of the academic programs (BS or MPH).
  • In the event one course cannot be assigned, the person will be assigned another special project. These could include (but may not be limited to) curriculum planning, data collection/analysis for various purposes (accreditation, workforce needs, strategic planning, curriculum development, etc.), and developing and maintaining relationships with external partners.
