About The Position

The BabyCare program has case managed, medically and socially underserved maternity and pediatric clients for the past 28 years with outstanding outcomes. It consistently has produced lower infant mortality rates than that of the City of Chesapeake in general with a majority of the years, having no infant deaths in the client population. The BabyCare RN home visiting program is in line with VDH mission to decrease infant mortality rates and premature births and fits equally as well into Virginia's plan for well-being, AIM2: a strong start for children! This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the Title IV for July 2026 period ending July 2028. The availability of funding is scheduled to be reviewed before the grant expiration date and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.

Requirements

  • Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities.
  • Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique.
  • Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public.
  • Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional study in health promotion/or public health is preferred.
  • Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion.
