About The Position

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for one full-time Public Health Nurse to fill an existing vacancy on the Vaccine Preventable Disease Team in the Environmental Health, Infectious Disease & Clinical Services division located at Citi Plaza in London, ON. This role involves providing immunization services, conducting screening and assessment, educating on vaccine handling, collaborating with partners to improve health equity, and performing public health nursing functions. The nurse will also maintain client confidentiality, health records, and utilize evidence-informed practice. Additionally, the role requires transporting and lifting equipment up to 15 lbs and complying with workplace safety policies, including PPE requirements.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited nursing program (BScN)
  • Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication & presentation skills
  • Proficient technical skills in the areas of documentation, Microsoft Office, and other database software
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license and own transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency working in Panorama immunization database is an asset
  • Knowledge of vaccines and experience with vaccine administration and completion of the Immunization Competency Education Program or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Experience working with professional interpretation services is an asset
  • Experience in implementing health equity strategies and working with multicultural populations
  • The ability to communicate (oral and written) in French and/or any other language(s) is highly desirable
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Work in school, community and MLHU clinics to provide immunization services to clients (shifts available are Monday to Friday during the day with limited evening and weekend hours)
  • Conduct screening and assessment of clients’ immunization needs according to medical directives, the Publicly Funded Immunization Schedule for Ontario and Health Unit policies and procedures
  • Provide education and monitor safe storage, handling and use of vaccines in the community
  • Collaborate with partners to improve the health of priority populations and address health inequities related to immunization
  • Provide public health nursing assessment, education, counselling, consultation, referral, and advocacy
  • Function within the mission, philosophy and policies of both the Health Unit and the division
  • Undertake and participate in any training required as identified by the Manager
  • Maintain client confidentiality and ensure that all information is collected in accordance with Middlesex-London Health Unit policy and privacy legislation
  • Maintain related health records, documentation and statistics
  • Utilize evidence-informed practice
  • Provide health education to clients seeking immunizations
  • Transport, lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 15 lbs
  • Comply with workplace safety policies and procedures including PPE requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned
