Health Services, Public Health is seeking motivated and self-directed professionals with a passion for protecting community health to join the Communicable Disease Investigations and Outbreaks team. This role involves contributing to critical public health efforts in a supportive, collaborative environment where expertise helps deliver essential services aligned with the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) for Communicable Disease Control. The position requires applying knowledge of population health status, health inequities, determinants of health, and strategies for health protection and promotion. It involves applying public health and nursing sciences, synthesizing knowledge from various theories, models, and frameworks, and providing health information, teaching, and counselling to individuals, groups, families, and communities. A holistic approach to assessing client health status, recognizing the impact of determinants of health, and identifying patterns and trends in epidemiological data and service delivery is essential. The role also involves identifying relevant information sources, analyzing how clients' culture, attitudes, beliefs, and feelings about health influence behaviours, and establishing mutually determined goals with clients. Facilitating client engagement in identifying and defining health issues using community development and assessment skills, and participating in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of community-wide and site-specific public health strategies using an Evidence Informed Decision-Making process are key aspects. The role also includes advocating for and contributing to the development of healthy public policy, collaborating with partners to address public health issues and service gaps, and developing, fostering, and facilitating intersectoral partnerships and networks. Acting as a change agent to impact determinants of health, engaging clients to identify assets and resources, and promoting equitable access to health and related services are also important. Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, integrating an understanding of these principles into program planning and service delivery, and communicating clearly and effectively using non-stigmatizing, equitable, and inclusive language are crucial. The role requires navigating challenging interactions with empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution skills, communicating knowledgeably about Peel Region services and public health programs, and utilizing tools to reduce communication barriers. Mentoring students, new staff, and colleagues, participating in workgroups, research, and quality assurance initiatives, and building capacity by sharing knowledge are also expected. Engaging in reflective practice, demonstrating self-direction in learning, identifying and participating in professional practice development activities, demonstrating professionalism, and adhering to public health and nursing ethical standards are vital. The role involves fulfilling legal and professional obligations, acting as an ambassador for The Region of Peel, and performing other duties as assigned. Participation in emergency preparedness, planning, and training, responding to public health emergencies, and potentially working flexible hours including weekends, standby, and/or evening hours are also part of the role. Redeployment to nursing work across the Public Health Department and working/traveling to multiple locations may be required, along with the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
