About The Position

The Communicable Disease - Public Health Educator provides health education resources and programming to help individuals, families, and communities prevent and control communicable diseases. This position collaborates closely with Communicable Disease Program nursing staff and provides education on a wide range of communicable disease topics including Lyme disease, rabies, syphilis, tuberculosis, measles, and more. This position actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours. We bring together expertise in communicable disease control, environmental health, health education, school health, clinical services, and population health to deliver responsive and equitable services. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external management
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel
  • Excellent proof-reading skills and the ability to quickly check documents for accuracy, clarity, and consistency

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Communications, English, Public Health, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-service and community-based educational programs on communicable disease topics
  • Develop communicable disease educational materials for the public, healthcare providers, community organizations, and local government
  • Attend community meetings and health fairs to understand community issues and build relationships with community members
  • Teach classes or otherwise disseminates health information to school groups, community groups, families, and individuals in a manner consistent with cultural norms
