About The Position

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for one full-time Public Health Inspector to fill an existing vacancy on the Food Safety & Health Hazards (FSHH) Team in the Environmental Health, Infectious Disease & Clinical Services division located at Citi Plaza in London, ON.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Public Health, Bachelor of Environmental Public Health (BEPH) or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Public Health Inspector by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors CIPHI.
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Legislation concerning Public Health and the Ontario Public Health Standards, Protocols and Guidelines.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office and database software (Hedgehog), and strong documentation skills.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to influence and de-escalate complex and/or challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse population, have knowledge of health inequities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in environmental health program work, health promotion, and enforcement of legislation is a strong asset.
  • The ability to communicate (oral and written) in French and/or any other language(s) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive environmental health programs in the community including FS&HH program work which may include but is not limited to food premises inspections including special events, health hazard investigations and service requests, housing inspections, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) inspections of childcare facilities and various other special projects.
  • Apply expertise in the areas of prevention, enforcement, promotion, protection, education, and research.
  • Protect individual and community wellness through the application of a variety of professional and technical skills in health protection, health promotion, and enforcement activities.
  • Provide coverage and client service in all EH program work, across the teams.
  • Client service and program coverage includes participation in office duty work, evening shift coverage, on-call weekends and some Saturday shifts for special event inspections.
  • Participate in other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The salary rate for this position ranges from $40.14 to $52.17 hourly based on qualifications and experience.
