About The Position

The State of Nebraska, Health & Human Services - Agency 25, is seeking a Public Health Attorney I, II or III in Lincoln, NE. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Nebraska bar (or eligible to be admitted by motion, or will graduate by May 2026 and take July 2026 bar exam to be sworn in September 2026)
  • Attorney II: At least one year of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies
  • Attorney III: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies
  • Ability to provide legal support to the areas within public health
  • Ability to interpret and apply statutes, case law, decision of court/administrative hearings, federal and state regulations, and administrative rules and policies on a variety of legal issues
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with legal associated, other governmental employees, and the public
  • Ability to conduct legal research
  • Ability to formulate legal opinions and recommendations based on legal research
  • Ability to identify critical elements of legal questions or issues
  • Ability to use a computer for word processing, research, meetings and communication, and case information/filing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or familiarity with Public Health
  • Knowledge of Westlaw
  • Experience drafting and reviewing contracts, data-sharing agreements and/or procurements and funds
  • Knowledge of privacy laws, such as HIPAA
