About The Position

The Vermont Department of Health is seeking to hire a Public Health Analyst I in the Research, Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit, Health Statistics and Informatics Division. This analyst will be responsible for analyzing data related to the health of incarcerated individuals and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Vermont. The role involves conducting statistical analyses at a professional level, including basic epidemiological analyses. Duties include selecting statistical and epidemiological methodology, data analysis, performance measure monitoring, data visualization, report preparation, and presentations. The analyst will also provide interpretation of data, write reports, summaries, and briefing documents, give data-related presentations, respond to internal and external data requests, provide technical assistance, and support annual grant writing and reporting. The position requires a strong interest in qualitative data collection and analysis, improving data quality, producing accessible data reports, and understanding community/population health needs. The successful candidate will become a subject matter expert in population-level carceral health-related public health data and COPD surveillance.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or a social sciences discipline, including 6 credits in statistics at the graduate level.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in statistics, a health-related or social sciences discipline, including 12 college credits in statistics, research or computer sciences, and 6 of these credits must be in statistics AND one (1) year or more of professional level work in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
  • OR Associate’s degree in a public health, health, scientific or informatics field AND two (2) years or more of experience in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
  • Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
