About The Position

The Public Area Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of all public spaces within the hotel. This includes areas such as lobbies, corridors, elevator banks, public restrooms, stairwells, service areas, and floor pantries. The role also provides support to room attendants by assisting with linen distribution, restocking supplies, making special deliveries to guest rooms, and aiding with heavy lifting during deep cleaning projects. This position requires regular interaction with guests, emphasizing the importance of warmth, professionalism, and helpfulness in all guest encounters. The role offers a growth path within the housekeeping department, with opportunities to advance into room attendant roles and beyond for associates who demonstrate skill, consistency, and commitment. Weekend availability is required as hotel housekeeping operates seven days a week.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and position loads of at least 25 lbs.
  • Comfortable operating equipment including spray bottles, vacuums, mops, brooms, dustpans, scrub pads, and dusters.
  • Able to observe conditions throughout the property and detect odors or cleanliness issues that need attention.
  • Flexible availability including weekends; weekend availability is required for this position.
  • A professional appearance and demeanor consistent with Marriott brand standards.

  • Previous hotel or housekeeping experience is preferred but not required; we will train the right person.

Responsibilities

  • Walk all assigned floors at the beginning and end of each shift to collect bags, trash, and soiled linen, ensuring public corridors and service areas are clean and guest-ready at all times.
  • Clean all public areas of the hotel in the prescribed manner and in accordance with department standard operating procedures, including lobbies, corridors, elevator banks, public restrooms, stairwells, and other shared spaces.
  • Pick up clean linen from the laundry area and refill the par stock of linen on each floor pantry to ensure room attendants always have what they need to complete their assignments.
  • Refill the par stock of guest amenities and supplies on each floor pantry throughout the shift so the housekeeping team is never waiting on supplies.
  • Deliver towels, cribs, cots, rollaway beds, and other items to guest rooms upon request, doing so promptly and with a friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Remove soiled linen and trash from all service areas and transport them to the appropriate locations in the prescribed manner throughout the shift.
  • Assist room attendants with heavy lifting during super cleaning and spring cleaning of guest rooms.
  • Perform duties of a room attendant when necessary and as directed by housekeeping leadership.
  • Engage with guests encountered throughout the property in a warm, helpful, and professional manner, checking in on their stay and addressing any immediate needs.
  • Respond to all guest and team member requests in a friendly and helpful manner without exception.
  • Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual conditions observed throughout the property to the appropriate team promptly.
  • Maintain housekeeping cart and all equipment in a clean, organized, and properly stocked condition throughout the shift.
  • Follow all proper procedures for the use and handling of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment in accordance with SDS requirements and safety training.
  • Work collaboratively with room attendants, laundry, and maintenance to support the overall housekeeping operation.
