About The Position

Parsons is seeking a Public Affairs Intern to support the Hudson Tunnel Project Community Engagement Centers (CECs). This role is designed for students interested in working with people, communicating creatively, and making a community impact. Interns will report to the Manager of Community Engagement Centers and gain practical experience in community engagement, public communication, event planning, and stakeholder relations, which are valuable skills in various sectors.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a college junior or senior for Fall 2026.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and comfort interacting with diverse community members.
  • Clear written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Interest in community engagement, public service, or public-facing work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team environment.
  • Creativity and willingness to try new outreach approaches.
  • Attention to detail and comfort collecting, organizing, and reporting data.
  • Applicants should be enrolled in one of the following majors: Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Public Policy, Urban Studies, Political Science, Transportation, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or STEAM majors interested in public engagement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations at the New York and New Jersey CECs, including greeting visitors, answering questions, and addressing project-related concerns.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating community meetings and events, potentially involving travel beyond the CECs.
  • Gather community feedback and track questions, concerns, and suggestions using project-specific mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, schools, clubs, and community groups to support outreach and drive traffic to the CECs.
  • Create and distribute communication materials such as flyers, newsletters, social media content, and project updates in coordination with the Communications Department.
  • Help coordinate educational workshops, site tours, and youth engagement activities.
  • Serve as a friendly and approachable point of contact between the project team and community members.
  • Contribute ideas for new engagement initiatives or campaigns to enhance community participation.
