About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Pt Transportation Aide is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients, specimens, deceased individuals, and equipment throughout the Medical Center in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role supports the smooth operation of the department by assisting nursing staff, ensuring proper use and maintenance of transport equipment, and adhering to safety and infection control standards. The aide utilizes communication tools such as telephone-based dispatch systems, pagers, and two-way radios to coordinate transports, while promoting positive relations with patients, hospital personnel, and guests. Additionally, the position may involve assisting with duties of the Transportation Equipment Coordinator and Team Leader during their absences and requires access to medication storage areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or alternative certification programs through Baltimore City Public School Systems and Project Search internships.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare or customer service setting.
  • BLS certification for CPR.
  • Effective communication in English with healthcare personnel.
  • Proficiency in patient safety.
  • Proficiency in hazard prevention.
  • Proficiency in body mechanics.
  • Adherence to departmental policies.
  • Capability to enter isolation environments (fit testing required).
  • Demonstrate age-appropriate patient care skills.
  • Competence in operating communication devices (two-way radios, telephones, computers, pagers).
