About The Position

The PT Teaching Artist Dance Barns-Apprentice position at The Dance Barns in Santa Fe, NM is a part-time role focused on teaching and choreography, with a salary range of $25.00 - $35.00 per hour. The training period includes a paid apprenticeship where the artist learns under a master teacher, participates in enrichment workshops to understand pedagogy, and builds teaching skills. The schedule can range from 3-12 hours per week. Responsibilities include preparing assignments and lesson plans, collaborating with the teaching and music team on choreography for outreach programs, and providing backstage support for culminating performances. The role also involves attending enrichment workshops and staff meetings, following the NDI New Mexico program curriculum, providing necessary materials to the program director, and subbing classes when available. Other duties may be assigned as needed and mutually agreed upon.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares assignments and lesson plans for classes as directed by lead teaching artist
  • Works collaboratively with teaching and music team to create choreography for outreach programs
  • Works backstage in support of culminating performances for programs
  • Attends all enrichment workshops and staff meetings as needed
  • Follows NDI New Mexico program curriculum set by program director
  • Provides program director with required materials and information as needed
  • Subbing classes when available
  • Other duties as needed and mutually agreed upon
