Madison College is recruiting a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates to teach part-time courses for the Non-degree Fire program. Requirements

  • High School diploma (Associates degree preferred)
  • Two years’ experience coordinating and/or leading training and learning
  • Certification as a Fire & Emergency Services Instructor (FESI) with the WTCS prior to completion of onboarding (within 6-months). Must maintain throughout employment.
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge/experience with current educational methods/strategies such as learner-centered instruction, active learning, assessment, evaluation, collaborative techniques, and strategies aimed at closing the achievement gaps across race, gender, class, and disability.
  • Ability to teach courses at non-degree continuing education levels.
  • Ability to communicate complex and difficult concepts and ideas to students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparedness.
  • Ability to learn new and emerging technologies and incorporate them into the classroom and curriculum.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on course and program promotion, direction and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction of Fire Fighter Services at the non-degree continuing education level.
  • Developing a relevant and progressive curriculum.
  • Designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments.
  • Delivering instruction of high quality.
  • Assessing student learning.
  • Advising students.
  • Participating in college service activities at the department, school, and college levels.
  • Facilitating student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students’ needs to support student engagement.
  • Evaluating student performance and providing regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
  • Contributing to student success and retention by advising students with course selection, career concerns, internships, and other matters.
  • Serving as an advocate for students and engaging in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendations, and/or helping students link with internships, service learning, job shadowing and other forms of networking.
  • Providing support to the program, the school, and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environment.
  • Continually revising curriculum to improve student learning.
  • Continually improving teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology, including the development and implementation of an individualized professional development plan.
  • Maintaining a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.
  • Complying with college policies, directives, and work rules.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.
