About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Cambridge Springs, is seeking a highly motivated Psychological Services Specialist, DOC, to join our dynamic Psychology Department. In this position, you will assist inmates in managing emotional challenges, developing key life skills, and building stability. This position focuses on providing psychological services that support emotional health, treatment needs, and behavioral adjustment within the correctional setting. It involves counseling, assessments, crisis response, and coordination with clinical and institutional staff.

Requirements

A master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology or counseling.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
Must meet the PA residency requirement.
Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

Possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors.

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group therapy that supports emotional stability, skill development, and behavioral adjustment
Conduct interviews, administer tests, and interpret results to guide treatment needs
Prepare reports and develop behavioral plans based on inmate evaluations
Offer intervention and support for inmates experiencing acute emotional distress
Coordinate with staff, agencies, and mental health facilities to support inmate care
