About The Position

This position focuses on providing counseling, conducting evaluations, and supporting inmates with emotional and behavioral needs. It plays a key role in promoting safe adjustment and effective treatment within the institution. As a Psychological Services Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Counseling Services: Provide individual and group therapy using techniques that support behavior change and emotional management Assessment Work: Conduct interviews, administer tests, interpret results, and prepare psychological reports Care Coordination: Consult with other departments and agencies to support delivery of mental health services Program Support: Assist in research efforts designed to strengthen psychological services and treatment outcomes Intern Guidance: Provide direction and practical experience to student interns completing psychological training Crisis Response: Offer immediate intervention for inmates in assessment housing units during urgent situations.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology or counseling.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors.
